Feature Animation





Previs and layout



Working closely with the Director, Supervisors and Lead, storyboards are brought to life in 3D using Maya. Using cinematography skills, shots and sequences varying in complexity are created.

Knowledge on how cameras work in regards to framing, composition and motivation are essential to further build on the storyboards. Animations of characters and props are done to establish the pacing, timing and intention for each scene. With simple block Lighting, the mood and atmosphere of the scene are set to match the concept art and give more depth.

Role: Final Layout Artist

As a Final Layout Artist, we work alongside the Animation and Lighting Department to establish each shot. With Final Layout, it is all about refining the scene with the latest updates. The responsibilities of the role include,

  • Camera Polish - Adjusting camera animations to match the latest animation.
  • Character and props blocking and posing
  • Set dressing
  • Final Animation Prep
  • Final Layout Maintenance
  • Final Layout Quality Check

What a joy it was to work on the Twits, everything about it was amazing. A privilege and special moment to be able to work with the Director/ Writer Phil Johnston, and the team I had at Jellyfish Pictures working closely with the Netflix Animation team from LA.

These images are coincidentally sequences/ shots I got to work on. Definitely one of the best projects to work on that challenges your Creative and Technical knowledge. Jumping across Previs, Rough Layout and Final Layout, a lot of skills, tools and workflows were learnt along the way. The opportunity to Mentor and train new members of the team was an invaluable opportunity.
